OSHA Publishes Case Data on 890,000 Injuries and Illnesses That Occurred in 2023
On Dec. 12, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor announced the release of comprehensive data collected by OSHA on more than 890,000 workplace injuries and illnesses at more than 91,000 workplaces in calendar year 2023. This data includes incident-level details on the conditions and circumstances of injury and illness events.

Federal electronic recordkeeping and reporting requirements require certain employers to use OSHA’s Injury Tracking Application (ITA) to submit injury and illness reports. The posted data supports OSHA’s continued efforts to carry out its statutory mission to ensure safe and healthy working conditions for employees.
In this phase of data publication, OSHA is making workplace injury and illness incident details available, including the:
- Name of the employer;
- Location of incidents, injury or illness descriptions;
- Workers’ activities before incidents occurred;
- Events that caused the harm;
- Types of injuries or illnesses; and
- Objects or substances involved.
This data is being published to make workplace injuries and illnesses more transparent. The data is a tool for employers and other interested parties to use for research and understand the nature of workplace injuries and illnesses.
To protect workers’ privacy, OSHA used artificial intelligence and human review to redact personally identifiable information, such as:
- Names;
- Social Security numbers;
- Phone numbers;
- Birth dates; and
- Addresses.
