Kia Recalls Over 450,000 Vehicles Due to Fire Risk
Kia America is recalling nearly 463,000 Telluride SUVs due to concerns that the front seats may catch on fire. The recall applies to model year 2020-2024 vehicles. Kia is advising those who own affected vehicles to park them outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures.
What Is the Issue?
The issue stems from seat controls on the front power seats of affected vehicles. Kia has found that a slide knob on the controls can become stuck, potentially causing it to run continuously and eventually overheat.
Early reports of such incidents date back to 2022, when a motorist reported smoke coming from beneath their driver’s seat. According to Kia, no accidents or injuries have occurred as a result of the issue.
What Should Vehicle Owners Do?
Kia advises those who own affected vehicles to park them outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures. Motorists will be instructed to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealership for repairs and adjustments at no cost.
During this appointment, staff will install a bracket for the power seat switch back covers and replace slide knobs.
Kia plans to begin sending letters to affected vehicle owners beginning July 30, but motorists can reach out to the company themselves by calling 800-333-4542 and referencing the recall number SC316.
